Francisco Bautista was born in the small village of Teotitlan in the state of Oaxaca in Mexico. A fourth generation rug weaver, he uses mainly the designs of the ancient Zapotec culture. Francisco dyes the handspun wool yarn he uses with mostly natural materials including plants he gathers in Oregon as well as cochineal and indigo that he purchases. Francisco is happy that his wife Laura is joined him in the family weaving enterprise and that his young children are already showing interest. Laura constructs the pillows that Handcrafted Art Traditions carries.
