Braided Rawhide Necklace
Mike Alley of Wyoming uses the same techniques he employs in braiding rawhide reins and other cowboy gear to produce stunning hand braided neckwear for men and women. Because of its suppleness, he chose kangaroo hide to braid this necklace.
The necklace is formed with two strands of braiding which meet in the center. Two rawhide knots and a loop create the back closure. An alamar knot (traditionally used decoratively on horses) forms the centerpiece for the necklace, and the two front ends are finished with decorative pineapple knots. The necklace is a natural cream color.
The neck opening measures approximately 23 ½ in. and the center decorative feature is about 4 ½ in. long.
