Tatted Cross Bookmark

  • 1475

Mary Maynard was a Wyoming native who always loved tatting, crochet, and others of the “women’s domestic needlework” that were widely practiced in previous eras. She created delicate tatted cross bookmarks with cotton yarn. Following a tradition established by earlier tatters, Mary laced a satin ribbon through the arms of her crosses. The tatted part of her bookmarks measure about 4 in. x 3 in. and the satin ribbon extends about 1 in. more in each direction. A tatted cross bookmark would make a lovely gift for a Christian religious reader or someone who appreciates needlework arts.
