Washi Card by Kimiko Side—Single—Mizuhiki in Greens
A special cord called mizuhiki is made by twisting together long strips of handmade Japanese washi paper. The stiffened cord is colored and sometimes covered with different materials. Following a Japanese tradition of presenting mizuhiki gifts for weddings and other celebrations, examples of mizuhiki art were distributed to participants in the 1998 Winger Olympics and Paralypics in Nagano. Denver doll maker and washi artist Kimiko Side creates her own special mizuhiki ornaments to decorate greeting cards that can commemorate holidays, weddings, anniversaries and other special occasions. This card features a decoration made from different shades of green mizuhiki. It measures 5 ½ in x 4 ¼ in. It opens horizontally, is blank inside, comes with an envelope, and is protected by a cellophane wrapper. Since each mizuhiki card is created by hand, each will be slightly different. You will find that it is a work of art suitable for framing.
